I don’t like social media. I’m not convinced it’s nearly as effective as a marketing tool as it’s been made out to be. I don’t like being the product. However, to be taken seriously as a person who wants to move in the public sphere, facility with the socials is required. Should it be though? I don’t know. I just know it’s a thing, and its something which annoys me and I resist it. It feels like another cultural constraint designed to reward people who follow “the rules” and by so doing, punish people who don’t.
I mainly use my social media to get and stay in touch with family and friends or to post cat photos as a pushback project against algorithm fed political engagement. On Bluesky, I’ll engage with other people vis a vis the soccer team I support and to stay current on team news.
Put down the phone, get out into the world, and engage with your fellow humans in shared activities you enjoy.
